OA WeekendSeptember was Lodge #159 of the Greater Niagara Frontier Council. The Order of the Arrow is a brotherhood of honor campers that promotes camping and leadership qualities. The Order of the Arrow is known as the "Scouting's National Honor Society." The Organization is youth run by scouts under the age of 21. To obtain membership in the Order of the Arrow, a scout must first be elected by his own unit. After the election, he must participate and complete an Ordeal to become a member. The OA Ordeal members completed their induction by pledging themselves to cheerful service even as they took the pledge of silence, ate only scant food, spent the day in artious labor and slept beneath the heavens with the fireflies putting on quite a show (see the outdoor guy for more info on fireflies).. After the Saturday night induction ceremonies, those accepted as new members knew they had accomplished something special. All the painting, log splitting, bridge building, setting up of tents, brush clearing and more gave them a feeling of accomplishment and brotherhood with their fellow OA members.
